Our Approach
At GSG, we embrace a unique approach to game creation, moving away from traditional pipelines. We prioritize speed, flexibility, and prototyping to enhance gameplay, believing that the best ideas emerge through rapid iteration. Collaboration lies at the heart of everything we do both within our team and with our community.
What This Means for You
You’ll work in a pragmatic, fast-paced, and iterative environment that values collaboration across different teams and crafts. We’re not looking for perfection in our work; instead, we value experimentation, clear communication, openness to feedback, and a willingness to explore new ideas.
Who You Are and What You Will Be Doing
For this role, prior experience as a VFX Artist on game projects is a must. You’re skilled at creating, implementing, and maintaining VFX pipelines that enhance gameplay while keeping performance in check. You’ll be delivering visual effects in close collaboration with the Technical Artist, Animator, and Art Director.
Even though you’ll be the sole VFX Artist on the team, you’ll work closely with a variety of colleagues, so enjoying collaboration is key. You’re open to sharing and exploring ideas, can organize your workflow on your own, and don’t need a detailed task list to get things done. Instead, you assess and prioritize tasks based on the project’s needs, visual impact, and overall creative direction.
Skills & Software
Experience with the Niagara VFX system isn’t required, but it’s definitely a plus.
Familiarity with Unreal Engine 5 is preferred, while experience with other game engines is a must.
You should be able to create impressive and engaging VFX for guns (first- and third-person), grenades, monster destruction, and a variety of dwarfcore sci-fi technology.
Personality-wise
For this role, we’re looking for someone with a practical, structured approach to VFX - someone who enjoys making the biggest impact in the most effective and efficient way. You should have a good eye for creating spectacular VFX that enhance gameplay and fit the overall look and feel of the game. We’re looking for someone who’s steady, skilled, and confident in their craft, and who can join creative discussions while communicating clearly and practically.
A big part of this role is about turning chaos into clarity, organizing workflows, and making the most of existing structures to keep things running smoothly. It’s important that you don’t get easily overwhelmed by these tasks.
It’s also a plus if your interests and art style lean toward realism and science fiction rather than magical or fantasy themes.
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities Will Include (but are not limited to)
Maintain, develop, and enhance VFX pipelines, taking ownership of workflow documentation and process improvements.
Identify, suggest, and implement optimizations across existing VFX workflows and tools.
Establish, manage, and maintain catalogue of VFX assets used by the game, ensuring consistent use and re-use of assets by the team.
Create cool effects that support the flow of missions and gameplay.
What We Offer
Flexible hours with the option to work remotely for two days each month and every Friday.
Competitive salary with an annual bonus.
Strong pension plan.
Health and dental insurance.
Paid parental leave.
Five Weeks of vacation plus five extra days.
Child sick leave.
Spacious office in Gothersgade with lunch and plenty of social shenanigans.
Practical Information
🚨 Please note: This is a full-time, on-site position. To be considered, you must live in Copenhagen or within commuting distance.
🚨The deadline for applications is March 8th.
Application
Let’s keep it brief! No cover letter is needed - just focus on your application responses, CV, and portfolio.
Important: your portfolio is a special part of the application that showcases your style and skills. We’d like to see some particle work in your portfolio, and since we’re making a space-dwarf shooter, examples highlighting guns, explosions, and designs leaning toward realistic or sci-fi are especially welcome.😊
Review & Interviews
Your application will first be reviewed by our P&C team and the Art Director. After that, there are two interview rounds, with a short case in between.
The first round is a 30-minute conversation with the Art Director, Technical Artist, and Animator to get a sense of your skills and how you’d fit with our workflow.
If all goes well, we’ll invite you to work on a case-style question. You’ll have some time to prepare, and you will present your ideas during your second interview.
The second round lasts about an hour and includes the P&C team, Art Director, and Game Director. This round focuses on getting to know each other and understanding how you’d collaborate with the team.
We welcome everyone to apply! Your unique background strengthens our crew.
